Dometic Waeco Tropicool TCX21 Thermoelectric 12/24v Cool Box
The middle capacity model of the popular trio of 'super' thermoelectric coolboxes from Dometic-WAECO.
The Dometic Waeco TCX21 Tropicool Portable Cooler enjoys the same temperature performance as the TCX14 and TCX35's, cooling right down to 30 deg C below the ambient temperature and heating to 65 deg C.
The Waeco Tropicool TCX21 Cool Box comes with both a 2 metre long UK/Eire 3 pin mains cable and a 2.8 metre long 12/24 volt DC power cable, with cigar lighter style plug. This can be plugged into any suitable powered vehicle socket with at least 4 amps for 12 volts or 3 amps for 24 volts of power available.
Suitable for a weekends camping, boating or caravan or motorhome use, the Waeco Tropicool TCX21 is also terrifically suitable as a Truck Coolbox with the 24 volt operation which is standard and can also keep pre-chilled items perfectly cool for the longest of journeys. The 'Tropicool' arrived promptly, well packed and in good condition.
I tested the unit with two fridge / freezer thermometers after reading the very sparse information in the multi lingual handbook.
There are 7 temperature settings on the control panel plus the on/off button, the 'heating/cooling' button, the temperature 'raise/lower' button and the 'heating/cooling' indicators.
On test, the room temperature was 23 degrees C, and the box was empty (except for the thermometers). I switched the cooler to maximum (7 indicators illuminated); the box started to cool quickly and over the period of an hour the temperature dropped to below freezing but it did not switch off! I let it run for some time and the temperature continued to drop - but slowly and still didn't switch off. I then set the indicator down one step and the box switched off. Haven't had time to do a comprehensive test, but the it seems to do the job; not too worried about the 'zero' switch off because I'm unlikely to use it much on that setting. The sound was not obtrusive and tended to become a slight background noise. The volume is good and plenty high enough for 'two litre' bottles. The box seems rugged and well designed.
I haven't tried it on 12 volts yet but I imagine that the 12 volt input just bypasses the mains transformer. Would have rated 5* if the zero switch off worked. Problem is that the handbook is very limited on operational details. -
Excellent product
Bought this product to replace the old one. My husband is a lorry driver and this is used all day everyday in the week and keeps items in the fridge cold brilliantly. Delivery was very quick and the service excellent.

Waeco Tropicool TC21 Cool Box
I haven't had this cooler long enough to try out whilst camping but having tested it at home it seems to do the job. It is to be used as a supplementary cooler for drinks backing up the caravan fridge.I have nothing but praise for Jacksons who delivered the item very, very quickly and whose prices were very much lower than their competitors. Highly recommended on all counts.
